Mahindra & Mahindra has revealed the specifications of the all-new BS-VI Scorpio in their official website. However, the starting price is yet to be announced owing to the Coronavirus outbreak.
The homegrown carmaker is steadily progressing by upgrading its existing models to BS-VI standards. The BS-VI Scorpio is sold in 4 variants- S5, S7, S9, and S11 thus discontinuing the S3 variant from its line up. Currently, the Scorpio S5 BS-IV counterpart is sold at a price of Rs14.87 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi) so we can expect a price hike up to Rs.1 lakh for the BS-VI counterpart.
In terms of mechanics, BS-VI Scorpio is offered with only one engine option- mHawk 2.2L Diesel engine good enough for 140PS power and 320Nm of peak torque discarding the 2.5L and 2.2L diesel engines. The mHawk 2.2L diesel engine is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox in the base variant S5. However, the S7, S9 and S11 variants are equipped with 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Sources reveal that the Scorpio is most likely to miss out on automatic transmission and four-wheel drive options.
Going through the features, the BS-VI Scorpio features auto headlamps with LED DRLs, rear parking camera, automatic climate control, 7-inch touch screen infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and cruise control just like the BS-IV counterpart. It gets the same 7, 8 and 9 seating configurations. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS, high-speed alert, rear parking sensor and front seatbelt reminder as standard.
The exclusive features of BS-VI Scorpio include reverse parking sensor with dynamic assist, plush leather interiors, dual-tone dashboard, new imposing front grille, a new set of alloy wheels, sleek LED tail lamp, GPS in 10 languages, steering mounted controls, voice assist system, leather-wrapped steering wheels, and gear knob, electrically operated ORVMs, rear AC vents and emergency call (E-call). It comes with four attractive colors like Pearl white, Dsat Silver, and Napoli black and molten red.
Meanwhile, in view of the Coronavirus outbreak, the production of BS-VI Scorpio has come to a halt. We can expect an official announcement from Mahindra about the launch date and pricing anytime soon. Besides, 2021 is going to be a busy year for Mahindra with the launch of Next-gen XUV500, Thar and Scorpio. Stay tuned for further updates.
