Hyundai India is steadily implementing the green and cleaner energy by cutting down the carbon footprint and introducing CNG variants of Santro, Grand i10 and Xcent in the product portfolio. With an eco-friendly approach, Hyundai has launched Grand i10 Nios CNG version in two variants- Magna and Sportz at a starting price of Rs.6.63 lakh (Ex-Showroom Delhi).

  • To be offered in two variants- Magna and Sportz.

  • It employs bi-fuel (Petrol + CNG) technology.

  • It is limited to 5-speed manual transmission.

  • To be powered by BS6-compliant 1.2L Kappa engine producing 69PS and 95Nm of peak torque.

  • Costs Rs. 73000 premium than Petrol and Diesel counterparts.

It was only in the late January when Hyundai India has confirmed about the launch of Grand i10 Nios CNG version and now amidst the Coronavirus lockdown the carmaker has launched it silently without any delay. The Grand i10 Nios CNG is powered by BS6-compliant 1.2L Kappa engine that is good enough for 69PS power and 95Nm of peak torque witnessing a drop of 14PS power and 19Nm over the Petrol MT variant. It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with no Automatic transmission on sale. The CNG version employs the use of Bi-fuel (Petrol + CNG) technology. The updated variant is capable of holding up to 60L (water equivalent) of CNG and 37L of Petrol (just like the Petrol counterpart).

The feature list includes 8.0-inch infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, steering mounted audio control, 7 inch MID, keyless entry, wheel covers, electrically adjustable ORVMs, iBlue app support, height-adjustable driver seat, voice recognition and automatic climate control. As the CNG variant misses out top-spec Asta trim, it also misses out convenient features like rear adjustable headrest, rear wash and wipes, cooled glove box, and even the luggage compartment light found in the Asta trim.

In terms of safety features, the Magna and Sportz variant have dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensor, a rearview camera, central locking, dimmable IRVMs, speed alert system, speed sensing auto door lock and impact sensing auto door lock as standard. Being the base trim, the Magna supports only standard features as said. In addition to standard features, the Sportz trim offers projector fog lamps at the front and rear window defogger as well.

About the pricing, the Grand i10 Nios CNG is offered at a price of Rs.6.63 lakh for the Magna trim and Rs.7.10 lakh for the Sportz trim which is a little premium than the Petrol and Diesel counterparts. With only sparse amount of cars in CNG power train segment, the Grand i10 Nios has no direct rivals. However, the standard model competes with the likes of Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10.
